Where is the AirCon thermostat located?

To clarify - that's In Car Entertainment - not frozen water

Is that sensor/wiring combo in the supplement manuals maybe?

Hi Wurly, yeah I thought exactly that...but when I checked 62S021,22,23 there was no mention of it.. :(

However, I've had time to think about it tonight, and I think the replacement thermostat must need 12v supply for the thing to switch, so its probably still the same blu/red and blu/ylw wires which should be connected/switched. I think I could short the 2 pins and maybe force the system to work...i.e. cut out the thermostat. In its current state its not making a connection so could be why the a/c wont switch on. If it works, then I know its the thermostat at fault.

The part no. from Lings is 80430-SS0-A01. Everyone on the net is saying that part no. is discontinued. It had Omron or Mitsuba name on it but the white lettering mentioned 3*c so its defo doing something with temperature.

Not sure whether to short the blu/red and blu/ylw together with a 3 wire thermostat? Don't want to blow/damage anything further.

Had a bit of a disaster this morning. I tried to short the connector blu/red and blu/ylw on the a/c thermostat loom as per manual to try and force the compressor to work and this made no difference - aircon lights up but no compressor activation. Seems the thermostat is probably working then. (btw this 80430-SS0-A01 is a discontinued part now). Then...I stupidly shorted the 12v live with the blu/red and "crackle" I managed to blow something on the heater control panel  The aircon button now no longer lights up.

I checked all the underbonnet fuses hoping it would have blown just a fuse, but no. Out with the PCB again and yep - the track leading to/from the air/con switch had blown in 2 places. However, I just watched a soldering vid on youtube on how to repair tracks like this, so I've made a repair!! I checked the switch after the fix and it was working again. So back in the car for test, and yep all working again. So I wasted all morning fixing what I broke.

Moving on to the pressure switch next when I get a mo.

(If it turns out to be the fuses 9 or 11 - which I cant check at the mo because of where the car is parked - I will be
 )

I'm not giving up on fixing this, as it was working a few months back after being re-gased last year. All I had wrong was the aircon switch would not light up. I fixed this by squeezing the back of the control panel, and it fired into life - worked all last year...) until now when I really needed it.

Exactly. Now checked fuses 9 and 11 and all ok. Tested condenser relay now and that checked out fine. Then shorted 2 pins as per manual and bingo compressor and fan working. BUT, engine is hunting at idle and the air isnt cold!! Switched off as I think something was wrong. Could it have no gas?

All I have left to check is the pressure switch. If this is ok then?

Could possibly have no gas, yep.
Once you've checked out all the individual components and confirmed they're ok, if it still isn't working probably worth getting a a/c person to check it out?
Did the compressor sound ok?

Hunting at idle won't be linked to the ac system not working - that's just to do with the load side of the a/c system interfacing with the idle control (if that makes sense, I don't think I've explained myself well there! :? ) What I mean is that's a seperate problem as to why your a/c isn't cold...

Yeah I think the ecu would sort the idle out after a few mins of running. That's what the interweb is saying. Compressor sounded ok, no abnormal noises.

Now checked the pressure switch and got voltage at the plug ok but when checking continuity I got nothing!! Is it faulty or just no gas? Dunno

I suppose its more likely the switch is ok and telling me the truth (low pressure), I will have to get it tested for gas pressure. Although I can't see how I've lost the gas from last year, it was professionally evac'd and refilled and pressure tested. It held perfect for 20mins, so there were no leaks. It had added green dye so any leaks would be obvious. Not seen any traces of it.

If it is ok with gas, and the switch is faulty, I assume this can be replaced without gas leaking out requiring another refill?
