Shift light - What to use?

Post by Merlin » Mon Aug 12, 2013 10:18 am

I am not very good at choosing electrical pieces like this. I need a light I can wire up as a shift light. My Hondata S300 is programmed to bring on the CEL light at 8,200rpm (peak power). I would like a little light I can mount in the dash once I have taken a feed off the CEL wire.

What would be best to use? I don't want to be mucking about with resistors or anything. What is simple and easy to work with? Plus any links to Ebay or whatever?

Something simple like that. Just make sure you get pos/neg right and you'll be golden. Found those UK dials from my 2.3 - will get pictures to you later today ;)

Actually I would prefer a dome light. Do have any suggestion for that? Something that doesn't attract my attention unless I am looking at it, or flap around.

Cool on the dials :D

You need something that is really easy to see without having to look for it. I've never seen a shift light that was like this, so in my Civic I wired in a buzzer (electronic). Might get annoying on the track though........

Cheers Graham, on the page you put up there was a link to this which I think would suit me better. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-LED-12V-W ... 5621255%26

Post a thread on how you fit it and wire it up @merlin Looks like a simple but cool mod to do. I liked the idea of Kawas vtec light but he doesn't do them any more :(

Really all that I plan to do is splice into the CEL wire and mount the extra light in the dash. When ever the CEL comes on my extra light will too. This would only be of use to someone with an aftermarket ECU with a shift light function.

This one (linked off indigo's second one) should be pretty noticeable at 20mm diameter! :?
Doesn't show quite how domed it is though, might need an e-mail to ask them if they have the mounting diagram or a pic showing it side on so that can be judged?

:D
Apollogies Merlin, this off topic but made me laugh so I had to post... this switch linked off the same seller - @lxstuart one for your car I think?

( :? Strangely I quite like the idea of the 'warp speed' one though... )
