How do you know it's the thrust bearing?

If that is all it is, then a new clutch kit will see you on your way. Gearbox should be fine.

If I've remembered correctly what I've read on here recently... The ATR clutch kit tends to be cheapest option?

By thrust bearing though, do you mean the release bearing? What happened exactly to leave you with no drive, couldn't get it into gear without crunching/pedal just going to the floor?

EDIT: ignore atr clutch comment, this is for a 3rd gen not 4th/5th  :tosser:

I was at the lights and went to pull away, it started to move then I lost drive and there was a horrable grinding noise that was very lound. I took it out of gear and tryed again, you can feel the car wanting to move then the grinding starts again.

The clutch pedal hasent moved and when its grinding you can put your foot on the clutch and it stops.

If it shuts up when you put your foot on the clutch, then it isn't the release bearing - that's when it would make the most noise!

Might be the pressure or friction plate breaking up, or its gearbox related I'd say.

How many miles has the car done, out of interest? Have you have any signs of clutch slipping before this happened?
