Don't care about the wife when you're in a NSX.

have to say I thought euuurrgh when I first saw it - but it has really grown on me. It looks a bit like the new shape has been blended a bit with the old shape. Have to say though - thank god Honda is keeping the sporty side alive.
I have to agree RE:NSX though. That's where my money would go .......but alas.....I can't afford it.......especially now...

Nope - which is why it's even more attractive to buy the NSX! :D

IMO if you're seriously considering a 5 door hatchback, never mind the Type R badge sales tactic, you need your eyes checked. Cramming an extra two doors in ruins the aesthetic of a hatchback.

Buying any 'performance' version car with family baggage taken into consideration is the day you should book an appointment with your local genital doctor. You buy a performance car to spank yourself, not drive around like any other car out there because you have your wife and kids with you. Sure you may get a solo blast every now and then but you'll wish you had the full version.

I would go as far as saying buying any hatchback in 2014 is a mistake. Hatchbacks died in 2001. With the size of them now what's the point. If you really need to consider boot space as a vital requirement buy a bloody Berlingo or something.

Whole milk is for the big boys. Skimmed milk is for those that don't care or can't be trusted with whole milk. Semi-skimmed is for those that want whole milk but are either too wet or have a skimmed milk drinker nagging in their ear whilst simultaneously shortening the chain.

And that's what I think of the new Civic Type R.

I have a five door 2007 1.8 VTEC Civic and as a family car and it is immense! Small enough for the wife to drive without crashing it and large enough inside to get as much in there as you like. It uses its interior space very well. If the new CTR has the practicality of the eighth generation I would class that as good.

If you could only afford one sub £30 grand car, you only have one parking space, need 5 seats, not yet ready to completely give up on life and get a Vauxhall Meriva, what are your choices? I doubt the new CTR will be causing traditional sports car fans to abandon their coupe's and the like.

Hot hatches are too expensive today for them to only have two functional seats and a tiny boot.

Yeah it would probably be my choice if I absolutely had to buy one.

But I don't and I couldn't justify spending 30k on a hot hatch when you look at what you can get from the used
market in the same price range.

I'm sure your Civic is great at what it does, but it's not trying to be anything more is it.

If anything, these higher spec models should be sacrificing practicality in favour of performance and not the other way around. That's how it appears to me anyway, all IMO, my view is, et cetera.

I don't know about the rest of you but I prefer to bump my vices with something a little dirty instead of paying for top dollar product and watering it down.

I think you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. The CTR is the hot version of a shopping cart / small family car. Not a sports car watered down to a family car. Much like what the Accord Type-R is/was.

I probably am looking at it the wrong way but unfortunately it has been seen and etched. Perhaps I want too much from a TypeR badge.

I know it will appeal to a lot of people and clearly a lot of people on here like it and have expressed that. I figured if I was going to say I don't like it I should give my reasons why. Save a few, a high % of people commenting that they like it have based that on its looks, or at least only commented in that respect. Perhaps a more in depth discussion on its merits is what I'm trying to stir up ;) I realise this is only a concept, but surely there are some projected figures/finals specs we can be looking at?

And yes I do realise hypocritically my first comment was on its looks
