But it ran perfectly fine before. I had it one for a few hundred miles before installing the supercharger.wurlycorner wrote:My next suggestion is to swap the fuel pump back for the original.
I made sure the earths were sorted. They are all as strong as they can be. Bare metal, tight and right places.mercutio wrote:did you check the main relay I cant remember I know you have been over all these but it does really sound like a bad earth or at least electrical

I haven't read back through the other thread but...
Is it stupid to suggest that it's something to do with the map? I can't remember what you have plugged in now but whatever it is it's not set up properly is it. Could it be some mixture somewhere isn't right and as it tries to adjust to compensate it goes nuts and just causes it to cut out?

Its on the OEM ECU. So it should run fine. When it does run the car runs fine. A bit rich.Donald wrote:I haven't read back through the other thread but...

But its completely random if it decided to start or not or even idle. Sometimes it runs fine and sometimes it wont.
It very irritating.

Just to take one of the 'new' variables out of the system and I think it could cause the symptoms you're describing now (fluctating fuel pressure/inconsistent fuel delivery/introduce air in the fuel system) but I don't think the main relay could (accelerator down keeping the engine running wouldn't affect the main relay but could overcome fuel problems mentioned above?)RattyMcClelland wrote:But it ran perfectly fine before. Again, I might very well be wrong, I just think it's a simple thing that's worth a try and could fit the symptoms.
Failing that, time to get a mobile diagnostic guy out (a decent one that can scope things up etc rather than just plug in an obd code reader!)

It does this.
Sometimes i struggles to start like about and most times it ignities instantly but idles low and dies. Other times it idles fast like about and dies flat on its face.
Main relay is next.
I will have to buy a new fuel pump to test if mine has failed but you can hear it pumping when running. HRC/walbros are pretty loud compared to OEM.

That (in that video) is not 'classic' main relay symptoms.
Main relay normally means won't fire at all when cranking, or while cranking you hear it fire ocassionlly and might even 'catch' but as soon as you release the ignition switch from start position, it dies immediately.
The main relay should operate by;
Engine not running, the starter signal from the igntion switch provides a signal to the fuel pump to run (direct feed onto coil L2)
Once the engine starts, the ECU closes the circuit from S1 through L2 to keep a constant feed onto fuel pump run, so losing the feed from the starter position on the igntion switch isn't a problem.
If you can hear your fuel pump definitely continue to run, then the main relay is functioning correctly.
Just IMO.
If you want to completely rule out the main relay, stick a feed direct from the battery onto the fuel pump and try that. The engine should still start like that, but you may find the ECU doesn't like it and does something mad like rev engine up and down (that's what my CX's do when I do this, anyway - never worked out how it 'knows' but it does somehow!).
