Used multimeter at battery, getting 14v. However, HIDs failed to fire even while driving or holding revs at 3,000rpm. So a general overall electrical issue, I've not been at home this week so haven't investigated further.

In a way yes, but they were done at the same time as the arches, so I'm taking an educated guess that they will be in the same state. That and at MOT the tester showed my under the car and said he couldn't see the sill due to the skirts, but it looked like he could see rust through one of the holes on the inside of the sill.

I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 3.999999

Interesting idea, but if I was to replace it, it would have to be something quick, nimble and fun. Don't forget, this is my weekend "toy" car, and as such the practicalities aren't of a great concern to me. It's got to be something I can go out in at the weekend to remind myself a diesel Golf isn't the best I can drive.

There's an/a couple of earths somewhere that need cleaning up by the sounds. Either that or the rectifier in your alternator is packing up and it's not putting out smooth DC.

I've just seen this post Adam...

I can't say much as I've moved on to the S2000, but I do miss the 4th gen lude sometimes. It was a real GT car, comfy and quick. The S2000 by comparison, is a real "sports car", great feel to drive, very direct, can be unforgiving. I love it now, but I grew into it...

I had no choice really but to move on to the S2k as my bro-in-law nearly sold it from under me, and my chance of getting one "cheap" would have been over. If I hadn't found a buyer for my lude quickly, I would have happily kept it.

p.s. I just keep on finding things on this car now to spend my money on....its just money on cars.

I've had the same feeling too adam. But then thought drokk it.

Ludes just have something different about them...
I still would love a jzx90 but I can't justify spending 7k on a car as old as mine.
I get to drive my misses 86 quite often, yes its fun, yes its rwd. but I dont think its as quick in a straight line as the lude. Also for a car that worth 20x as much as the lude I don't think theres is much 'performance difference'. To be honest I have more fun driving my lude anyway. Bang for buck, you don't get much better IMO. Thats why I've decided, still after 7yrs to stick with it and throw that extra bit of cash at it now and again.

3byears ago I was at the point where my ukdm was I knew it was either about to go beyond repair, or I threw some money at the bodywork (somewhere that would do a decent job for a decent rate) and it could live on. I threw the money in and well, you've seen how it is now standing up again (yeah the paint needs some re-work but itbis solid!

) and it was the best decision I have ever made about a car, despite my doubts at the time

It's a tough call.

Sounds like you would spend a fortune on an s2purchase price though and the same as the lude to keep it going?

get the ocd in hand and give it a shake mate. The car is in good nick. I know you want it 'perfect' but you cant expect that realistically from anything. let alone a 4th gen
