Could the 'slammed' ride height just be broken hydraulics?

More like the nob has found the lever that adjusts the ride height!
People were scared of these cars because they thought the suspension was to complex and would let them down so steered away from them. In all those I had the only problem was the spheres which were cheap or could be regassed.

Exactly as Paul says, the hydraulic suspension is working fine, the point is that the 4thgenphil has made it clear that he's intentionaly driving it around set on the zero height setting, which means the suspension is on its bump stops only, with no hydraulic pressure in the suspension system.

Because the rear brakes are load dependent (brake pressure to the rear is varied by a comparator valve on the rear suspension pressure) then with no suspension pressure it also means you would have no rear brakes either.

Ergo, the current owner is a complete and utter gentleman's sausage!

Probably. BXs were all but impossible to drive when set to zero.
