Yep, 4ws will need to be removed if fitting an after market steering wheel I think, because there's a sensor on the column that pics up from the back of the oem wheel. Not sure if you can adapt an aftermarket boss to work with the sensor?

Removing cruise is a bit pointless IMO - it weighs absolutely nothing.

I'm sure it can be made to work, basically there is a plastic disc (main angle steering sensor) that sits behind the OEM wheel, with holes in it, the OEM wheel has lugs that sit in these holes, if you can take the back off your OEM wheel and fashion it to the new stuff, your in business.

I did this with a civic wheel halfway down this post....

Not exactly the same situation, but you get the idea.

Right guys as a couple of you said about fitting an aftermarket boss and wheel I wouldd need to do something with the plastic sensor ring on back of OEM wheel, well today I though ide fit my aftermarket boss and wheel and as u can see from the pictures I have just left off the sensor ring from the back but for some reason my 4ws light goes off as normal and my rear wheels are working and turning as normal my indicator stalks etc are working as normal too clicking off when u turn the wheel and there are no other issues, I'm confused somehow why would my 4ws still work if the sensor is removed
Please help meImageImageImage

The bits you've removed there, are they not the original contacts for the horn and/or cruise control buttons, rather than the 4ws sensor?
I think the 4WS sensor is inside the cowel itself and is an optical sensor onto the back of the original steering wheel??? Is that not right? :scaredtoss: (shooting from the hip there...)

Have you driven the car like that and the 4WS not flagged a fault, or just tested the 4WS statically?

I just tested it statically mate but somebody on facebook said the 4ws sensor is further in I really don't have a clue lol I only fitted it to see what it looked like

Yes, checked the manual.
The 4WS sensor is inside the cowling.
What you're looking at there is the contact pins for the cruise control.
See pages 17-92 to 17-93 of the manual.
Which also means I was talking bollocks when I thought changing the steering wheel would drokk the 4WS. On a 4th gen, it doesn't, because the sensor doesn't run from the back of the steering wheel like on a 5th gen, it runs off the steering column further back instead. So wheel has nothing to do with it.
