TP Sensor & throttle cable postion

Post by Drax » Fri Jul 10, 2015 2:53 pm

if my throttle cable position was off (due to me fettling with the two adjusting nuts of course), could this throw up a number 7 code for TP Sensor? or is it just usually a dodgy TP Sensor.

Thank you.

I would not have thought so unless the cable was or is pulling on the throttle slightly and affecting the TPS position, even then I would not expect a code anyway.

Yeah, it won't be related at all. If you've tensioned the cable too much, for all the car knows you're pushing on the pedal slightly, so it won't throw a code for that ;)

Might not be the TPS itself, check the wiring for continuity and then do a voltage output test as described in the manual (0.45v - 4.5v across the range).

Does the Prelude have an idle position switch in the throttle body?

I know my Legnum does - and if the throttle is slightly open, then it won't detect it as being "closed". This doesn't necessarily throw a code on the Legnum, but does mean that it won't ever go into the "no throttle" mode - such as switching off the injectors on overrun until the engine speed drops towards idle speed. (A handy fuel saving technique)

No, there is no idle position switch.
