Prelude Mk3 Manual (1991) 2.0 EXi 4WS

Post by 91mark3 » Wed Oct 07, 2015 3:52 pm

Every-day car for 23 years, 176K miles, in my possession for the last 18 years.
MOT until June 2016. Location Suffolk

B20A7 Engine and Gearbox and Clutch unit untouched and original and still performing nicely, probably because the car has been over-maintained in terms of oil change services (twice per year, av. 3500m). Timing belt always changed ahead of schedule (last 151K). 4WS just keeps on working. Both top rear suspension joints recently replaced (with 'hard to find' boxed brand new pattern parts from US).Good old FM radio and aerial unit in perfect order. Steering much improved after replacement of track-rod ends and steering joints, 5K ago.
Body was professionally restored to near show-room condition 5 years ago but now the rust is through again in the rear arches. Now in need of restoration.

I joined here some time ago thinking of keeping the car on the road but really this is something I don't have the skills or facilities to consider, so I'm running it past the enthusiasts here before disposing of it.
The car is still enjoyable to drive, but there were caveats with the last MOT pass:-

Both rear wheel arches rusting.
Fuel pipes to tank, and filler neck hose showing signs of rust.
Rear sub-frame showing signs of rust but not weakened.
Both rear suspension mount areas showing signs of corrosion.
Rear silencer corroded

In addition:-
Radiator (replaced 8 years ago) showing signs of fin loss, maybe 20% but still doing it's job perfectly well.
ABS pump occasionally 'runs on' after activation and the alarm lamp stays on. Hasn't happened at all this summer. I'm sure the guys here know all about this one (in the States, the Lude guys seem to think it can be solved by replacing a few 'O' rings in the ABS control unit).
Interior upholstery very good condition.

It would be nice for this old gal to have a new lease of life, or at least help someone to keep their MK3 on the road.
Can be driven away for a modest sum ie. cost of the new battery plus a trip to the local garage to have a sticking calliper freed up.

Colour Red with Silver bottom. Photos available on my PC if someone could tell me how to insert them here.

Sounds like a nice decent honest lude.

Thanks for advertising on here. Look forward to the pics and hope it does go to an enthusiast.

Hi 91. Do you mind telling me where you got the rear upper suspension ball joints from and costs, I may need a set myself. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for looking in.
ek9sid - As I say in the blurb, its effectively a giveaway. Had to put a new battery in to keep it on the road £80. Plus, I have said the car is driveable but there is a squeak developing from the front which could be sticking calipers but I have to check its not something more serious before I let someone drive away in it, say and hour at my local garage. MOT until June 2016.

prelude91 - Try these, you should find a picture of the very parts. They are 'handed', left and right. The parts are reasonably priced, but air mail more than $100, but still cheaper than a quote I had from a used spares company.
