Anyone fitted a CR-V towbar before?

Post by Lovedoctor » Tue Jan 19, 2016 10:54 pm

Hey guys,
After my very short foray into the world of Hyundai (wife bought a Terracan and within 6 weeks the fuel pump and injectors failed ) we have replaced it with a 52 plate CR-V. Have picked up a set of Thule Wingbars but really want to put a towbar on it for family holidays. The towbar is easy enough it's the electrics that concern. The crv has a dedicated wiring look that can be bought and clipped in but it's £65. Generic wiring loom will be supplied with the bar but needs soldered or scotchlocked. Has anyone does this and is it easy to do?
Cheers

Long time since I've fitted a towbar and no experience on a CR-V.

For starters though, avoid scotchlocks, they're jobby. Full stop.

Is the CR-V canbus driven, or simple hard wired? If it's the latter, just get on and solder in a generic one.

It's a popular car for that sort of thing, so you can probably find specific instructions from towbar manufacturers?

Thanks for the info @wurlycorner. Don't believe it is Canbus driven. Like I say you can buy a specific plug n play loom but they are as expensive as the towbar itself and don't want to spend loads of money on the car having taken a hit with the Terracan. My mate is decent with a solder so prob get him to do it. Was just wondering if anyone had specific experience.
