I had a busted antenna when i bought my BB1 so i bought a BB4 motor and mast stupidly i didn't realise or remember they would be different and it had the half option on it, so ended up stripping both and putting the antenna of the BB4 into my BB1 motor, anyhoo..
The reason I mention this is, its actually pretty easy to strip and replace and /or grease the nylon cord mechanism, you can also buy replacement masts on the bay for aroud £20-25 which you can put into your old motor pretty easily if that helps
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

You can use a half mast aerial in a full mast car, I did it on my old 2.3 4th gen. From memory, the half mast has a 3 pin connector instead of 2 pin on the full mast? So you just need to bugger about to make sure you pick up the right 2 pins on the half mast connector to give full mast.
like I say, that's from memory though (10 years ago) and without checking on the wiring diagrams, so don't shoot the messenger etc...

Cheers Wurley, I did this a few weeks ago now, the half mast had a black box fixed to the aerial, and didn't want to go full extension plugged in so i just swapped the masts over, and it works just dandy now
although reception can be a bit iffy at times on the radio especially on Absolute, but other stations seem ok, but i guess you can't win them all

Well mine used to hammer / machine gun because it was stuck not at full extension. Once I lubed it upwurlycorner wrote:Does that work for the machine gun noise at the end of travel then Tim? I thought that was cause of worn teeth and needed a change of aerial? Result if not!

Yep - you can unplug the power lead from the antenna unit.
