H22 Starting noise when cold

Yep, starter motor, or the ring gear on the flywheel is now damaged (teeth chewed up) because of the original problem.
Take the flywheel bung out of the end of the box (the timing hole) or the cover plate underneath the box and have a look at the condition of the ring gear. Make sure you do a full rotation of the engine (turn it slowly by hand) to check there are no missing teeth.

Yeah I ll have a look and fingers crossed all is okay.the more I read into the problem I realised it could potentially be worse so hopefully it's just the starter and no flywheel damage.turning the engine by hand so would that be turning the crank bolt 360 degrees?

It's the starter motor, it's not disengaging quick enough, seen it happen a good few times, same noise.

Yep, fine to turn the engine by hand on the crank bolt.

How is the starter motor i fitted to your car working out?
