how to fix 5th gen window problem

Post by Slashdotdash » Tue Feb 21, 2012 3:10 pm

Right im sure alot of you have had this problem in the past well heres how ive fixed both of mine :)

Things you will need:

10mm socket
Rachet
Extention bar
Pozi screwdriver
80 Grit sand paper
Silicon lubricant or WD40
A Tube of Sikoflex/ Glass bonding silicone sold at halfords

First off remove the door card

Then position the runner where you can caccess the window clips, the runner actually slides left and right so you can position them where you like :)

Carefully remove the glass and take it somewhere flat to work on, clean the previous adehsive off and sand to give the new adehsive something to stick to, i used 80 grit decorators sandpaper :)

Then clean the gunk out of the clips

Lube the rubber runners, try to get right in the back, silicon lubricant works best but i didnt have any lol

Image

Then fill the clips up with the sikoflex/window bonding sealant (be VERY carefull with this stuff it wont come out of clothes or fabric!)

Image

Bolt them back in

Then raise the runner to about here

And carefully lower the glass back in making sure its correctly seated in both clips

Then wind the window right up making sure its all correctly aligned and leave for a couple of days, avoid Mcdonalds drivethru also ;)

Is this a common problem on 5ths then?
Can't work out why it would be on them and not on 4ths as all the basic design/assembly method looks the same?

Great write up/pics btw.

My problem with the windows is the passenger side stayed down and lost power to pull it up and down. Any similar problems anyone?
