Door Panel Removal to fix central Locking

Post by pbryant_knight » Fri Jan 31, 2014 2:14 pm

Hi All,

As the topic suggests, i need to fix the central locking. I've never had a fob but when you open the door with the key, both sides would open.

Last year when we got a little bit of frost, the passenger side stopped working altogether. It's now getting on my tits so i need to do something about it.

I'm looking at getting a new Central locking kit and wondered how easy it is to remove the door cards on these cars to get to the locking mechanism?

Does anyone have a guide to removing the door card with the position of clips and screws?

Cheers

Peter

See section 20-4 (page 954) of the 5th gen service manual http://www.storageserver.co.uk/files/69 ... l.pdf.html

It will show you all the clips and screws and in what order to take them off ;)

Personally I skip step 1 and remove the bar from the handle while the door card is half off.

Yeah you need it to stop raining as you need the window down to get the door card off.

Useful info but bad news for me. My window mechanism on passenger side is slow as dicks....I assume door card off for maintenance....but the window won't got all the way down....hmm. :(

If it's the same as 4th gens, you can get the door card off with the window still up, it's just more shoving/pulling because the top of the door card is wedged between the glass and the inner door skin. Just be careful when you're pulling it about so you don't break anything.

really easy job, and i didn't put the window down to do it.
i got a bit stuck, but then used this guide which was really good...

just make sure you connect everything properly afterwards! i had to go back and take mine out again because i didn't quite connect the heated mirrors button, very annoying!

watch the little plastic bits on the rod, they tend to break

pull the interior handle out carefully
