Where shall i start? Need info.

Post by Macs » Fri Apr 11, 2014 3:52 pm

Hi all, New and all that, I dont have a lude yet but im looking to buy one within a month or 2 preferably a gen 4

I dont know what it is with the prelude, but its a car that is more "me" loved the design since i was a little tbh

I really need info though, I want to get the best i can, Im looking to hopefully find a manual at 90k or under, and im not sure if i want the 4WS Model as things might go wrong or i just wont like it, Or if i want a gen 5 but i dont know what issues they have.

Hopefully you can all help me, the more info i have about things and what i want, the quicker i can get one heh.

Welcome.

4ws is a bit marmite, people either love it, or don't get on with it. Test drive one with and see how you get on, is my suggestion there.

Under 90k miles? You'll be doing well if you can find one with that low a mileage tbh, pretty much all that come up are over 100k.

4th gen 4ws has only one common failure point (ECU) which is relatively easily fixed just by resoldering part of the PCB.
5th gen 4ws seems to suffer some other problems, throwing up steering angle sensor faults that either require a tricky reset procedure, or can end up being nigh on impossible to fix. Generally this is less frequent than the 4ws ECU problem though, from what I can see? (5th genners stop me if I'm wrong there...)

As for getting 'the best you can' well that depends what makes one better than another, to you. Some people like loads of equipment, some people like pauper spec, so they can claim they drive the 'rare lightweight' model ;) :poke:

4th gens are likely to be more rusty than a 5th gen but look sexy and have the uber 8-) dash
5th gens have 'those' headlights

It's what you like, really!

Pic out some that take your fancy, post the links up here and as lude-dude says, we'll give you our thoughts on them :D

Welcome! Where are you about? If you're near enough other members they may be willing to let you have a poke around their car so you can see what you think about 4G vs 5G, 2WS vs 4WS etc.

Well im into various models, In all honesty i want to learn a lot about them and possibly end up restoring ones if i find them sometime in the future, but first i need to learn about them of course.

While i know that most prelude gen 4's are usually over 100k these days every now and then i see ones with about 75k on them.

Basically just looking for the VTEC 2WS Models gen 4 and 5 though i would not be put off by getting a 4WS model if it looks nice for the price.

i prefer something not messed with too much, i like the stock look even though there is various things in my mind of what i can do, and im more of an acceleration & handling guy than top speed if i ever tune it engine wise.

Welcome in! :)

Yep, like the man says, where are you?

If you're a handling guy I'd definitely consider 4WS (I am biased, I admit). They can be incredible on a very twisty road. It is NOT about parking. As suggested though on a short drive it will feel odd. Some day, all cars will have this though.

if you are not into speed then you would get a real nice 2.0ltr a lot cheaper than a 2.2. they only come in 2ws and have not been ragged ;)
and the money you saved turbo the f22 non vtec and all the low end grunt you could ever need ;)
