Horrible metalic grinding noise coming from h22a8

Post by Hotrod-Aha » Sat Apr 12, 2014 8:00 pm

My engine has developed a metalic grinding noise, kinda like rubbing two blocks of iron together.

Ive just topped up the oil so i know that its not running dry.
Its definitely coming from the right hand side (belt side) of the engine and gets worse with revs.
engine starts and car drives fine its just this noise im concerned about incase the engine goes completely and im left carless.
Il try get a video of the noise some time tonight.

Any suggestions in the meantime?

Yeah or tensioner bearing or water pump/alternator bearing failed, something like that.

It does lose oil a little, not really badly but noticably
So it is an easy fix or is it a major wallet killer?

depends if you are due a new cambelt then it should be all in around £300 possibly less but that's assuming its the water pump

Is it not the same pump as the rest of the Vtec motors :?

The h22a8 pump is a unique part, the only other model it was fitted to was the type-S.

Im now hearing that a H22a5 pump will fit but will give a different steering feel so im not entirely sure whats the best option is.
