Cam belt - looks like its trying to slide off!

Finally got the car running, have run it up to temperature a couple of times and while looking over everything have noticed the cam belt seems to be working its way off.

Any suggestions on likely causes?

I had same problem and mechanics said it was some worn pulley.

check the bottom pulley to see if it is on correctly, check to see if the pulley runs true.

the bottom pulley is a harmonic dampner. made of 3 pieces. a solid center, a band of bonded rubber and then the toothed gear.
the rubber can perish causing the pulley outer to oscillate/vibrate. if this pulley is not running true then the belt will hang off as much as the untrue rotation.
also. your cam pulleys are aftermarket, is the offset of them correct? (distance away from the head)

Yes, I noticed this too - so what has been fitted to the engine, when and by whom?
What tensioner is it running?

Do all the bottom crank pulleys have a dampener? Because I have a solid pulley on mine? But the F22b spare engine I have has a dampener pulley,

Also I hear people have this problem after fitting manual tensioner conversions.

Thanks for the quick replies. Engine does have aftermarket cam pulleys fitted by previous owner. It has a kaizen speed manual tensioner, also has brand new idler pulley and cam belt. It's not running the balance shaft gears and has an Evolution industries single alloy crank pulley.

What's the best way to check the offset of the cam pulleys from the head?

If the belt is too tight, it will walk off the pulleys.

Thanks, doesn't seem to tight but will try backing it off a bit. Have a coolant issue to resolve before I can run the engine again but once I've got the parts I'll take another loom at the cam belt.

Does anyone have a scientific way of checking the cam belt tension when using a manual tensioner?

A H23 conversion? In my experience there is only one way the belt can go on, at its slackest setting.

It's the kaizenspeed manual tensioner so has plenty of slack as it uses the stock idler pulley
