Life's not always this awful-honest....agh!..
Hello all,
As I am new to the site I might make a few mistakes so please make allowances. My 'other half' has had three 4th generation preludes over the years and although I have got too creaky to get in and out easily, I still love the car. I bought them over the years from all over the south of UK.
The current car has been super reliable for a few years and breezed through the MOT recently - only for the steering column (and rack) to pack up two weeks later. Small garage tried, then sent it to a company for refurb who took ten days to say they couldn't do it. We are totally gutted right now but I will not give up yet. I am about to start searching everywhere now and started here as it seemed the best chance.
It's a 2.2 VTEC with the black interior and favourite dash etc, M reg, silver, with a new MOT so it's too good to give up.
I have the correct numbers for the parts.
Unbelievably after the steering went, FOUR DAYS later our other car (old but reliable Accord) was hit in the rear and written off. Two cars in four days, and the Accord just had £200 spent getting through it's MOT two weeks earlier. Is this reality or am I going to wake up soon?
Ha....help
Enough of all my woes, things aren't usually this bad, honest!
Thanks for reading, Max

Oh dammit, that sounds very unfortunate
But anyway, welcome!
Whereabouts are you located? Steering Columns and Racks aren't anything that usually goes wrong?!
I'm sure you can source good used bits off the forum pretty cheaply - in fact, I'm breaking a 4th gen atm and was planning to get the rack out of it before it goes?!
EDIT: front steering rack, not 4WS rack (because it's a 2WS model that I'm breaking)

4th Gen steering column and rack
Hi Iain,
Thanks for very quick reply and the welcome. This sounds hopeful as ours is a 2WS model.
The numbers are; (as told over phone from garage) SSO95 94010874 SSORH (casting). I don't know enough about them to know if there is any adaptability between other 2WS 4th generation models. This is a 2.2 VTEC automatic M reg.
It would be great news if this worked out. I am in probably one of the least accessable places in the UK at the far south of the Isle of Wight but I can travel or use a mainland address to post too.

Bound to be the same, but I will confirm by the part numbers...
Ok, the rack would be one of the last things that comes out of it (for obv. accessibility reasons) but I'll let you know as soon as it's out. I have started dismantling the car in evenings this week and will get some more done over the weekend.
Are you in an urgent rush?

Well, we are having problems as both cars are off the road but a couple of weeks would still be great if it means keeping the car going. Would that be possible? If longer its still good news. I think I have found a replacement for our written off car with luck which would ease things in the short term.
Also- Thanks to Merlin and duckface for welcome

Welcome - I am a newbie myself (and dont actually own a prelude
) But this is a great site and in keeping with the spirit of the place I will offer my help.....it just so happens I am travelling to the isle of Wight - staying near Shanklin, will be travelling out on the 16th August. Really busy at work leading upto then so I probably wouldnt be able to travel too far to pick it up, but if it all happens to fall into place I'll happily squeeze it in the car and bring it over with me
