Hesitation when cold

Post by scouse boy » Thu Mar 26, 2015 5:59 pm

Hi guys,

I've had my 5g 2.2vti for a couple of weeks now and I have noticed that when it is cold, there is hesitation between 2-3k revs. If I put my foot on the accelerator with more force then it goes, but was just wondering what would be the easiest way to diagnose the problem / parts to check or replace. I have noticed a slight blow in the exhaust downpipe but wasn't sure whether this would cause this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Craig

If its any help mine too runs like a bag of garbage when its cold. I try to let it warm up before setting off normally but sometimes its unavoidable.

A hole in the downpipe is unlikely to cause that I'd have thought, but worth sorting it anyway as a starting point.

 what sort of revs do the iab's open at on a lude?

Putting a bottle of injector cleaner in your fuel tank wont do any harm. I have had that get rid of a flat spot before.

This is a common complaint on the accordr forum. The accord engine is the H22A7 which I think is quite similar to the engine in the 5th gens?

I don't think there has ever been a definitive answer though, people have cured it by various methods. Some of the fixes/problems include (from memory)

cheap/broken intake
dodgy/broken O2 sensors
low compression on one or more cylinders

My brother had this on his Accord and he never bothered looking into it because apart from that the car ran fine so he just put up with it. He did have a cheap eBay special intake which may have been the problem.

I have a hesitation/flat spot between 2-3K rpm too. I thought it was linked to my faulty intake air temp sensor but I have replaced that (I no longer get the CEL) but I still have the hesitation. I feels like the car is down on power, I take my foot off the pedal and put it down again, then the car accelerates normally.

Thanks guys,

I took it to KwikFit this morning as the exhaust was blowing and they have confirmed that the weld at the centre pipe has come away so they're ordering a new part and installing it in the next week (under warranty). I am going to replace the o2 sensor, spark plugs and distributor as well as give the EGR a clean to see what difference that makes. After setting off this morning there was a definite hesitation around 60mph in 5th gear which is around 3k however once warmed up this disappeared. Very strange! Thanks for the help again, I shall keep you all posted
