Fancy some smoke anyone? *cough*

Fancy some smoke anyone? *cough*

So I'm sat outside yesterday evening and began to smell a weird, oily/petroly odour coming down the road. Actually, my first thought was that the car had sprung a leak so I'm grovelling round on all fours looking for any tell tale signs. Then all became clear, or rather completely blacked out, as I was enveloped with some kind of pesticide (God knows how lethal this stuff is) in the annual Malaysian combat Dengue* fug. (Malaria-lite but still a killer)
I cannot begin to tell you how crap the air was for quite a considerable period of time after we'd been zapped but it doesn't half linger. Anyway, here's a few snaps of a localised eclipse.
Yes, smoking is bad for your health.
Here it comes...

Of course, as soon as the fug cleared, I bravely lit another fag to combat the filth I'd just inhaled.

Jeez, that's pretty extreme!

Dengue has been mentioned in amongst all the Zika virus news recently.

Hi Iain, yes, it's pretty bad here. Coupled with rather poor sanitary conditions in some of the more run down areas of the city, poor drainage leading to stagnant pools of water and the stifling heatwave we've been encountering these past few months, then the Mozzies are having a field day.
From what we learn, it seems as though the anti Dengue vaccines are just not as effective these days either. Although it's not very pleasant to sit through, I think the local council will be doing this on a more frequent basis from now on. They used to do it once a month in Singapore where Dengue, although present, is not as widespread as it is here.

Yep, clean running water and decent sewers is something we take for granted.
