Finding a 2.2 Manual Prelude

Post by AdsGUK » Thu Mar 30, 2017 11:09 pm

Hi there I am new to the forum and have been keeping a hopeful eye on the classifieds lately.

I currently have a fiesta ST mk7 and am hoping of trading for something cheaper due to future commitments
I have always taken a fancy to things VTEC and after seeing a friends Dads Prelude ive been hankering for one!

They are well within my budget however I cannot seem to find any 5th Gen Ludes anywhere! unless theyre the other end of the country. Im based in the southeast where the used car market is pretty dire in my opinion.

Are these notoriously hard to get hold of? Anyone looking to sell anytime soon? ;)

@ek9sid I'm in Surrey, Epsom specifically. That spec sounds good to me. When are you looking to sell. I'm in process of paying last bits off my car but possibly will pay it off quicker. Out of interest how many miles? What kind of price where you thinking of? Thanks

:? He said he had a Fiesta ST, not a Focus ST? :?

Surely there must be a kit out there that gives a Civic the gay fake exhaust over-run noises that every new manufacturer is now jumping on the bandwagon of.

Have you also considered an accord type r? I too am coming from a mk7 st. I got rid as could do without the monthly payments and the car was a bit souless in my opinion. I am hoping to get a dc5 next but Preludes and accords are both great if on a tight budget :)

The Accord Type R is a great car.
For us, it's a family car for the most part. Once in a while, we'll go for that more obvious vtec step, and rarer still, we'll put the lsd to to a real test. We love the fact that it can do all these things. Four decent seats, luggage space and usually quicker round a track than a Prelude = what's not to like?

But which car do we take on our Euro road trips? The 5G Lude of course. It's a better cruiser.
It's also a better daily.

The ATR is a machine - and feels like it. We love it for that. But the Prelude flows.

And it's often cheaper.
Pound for pound, the 5G Prelude could be the best car you've ever owned.

If you are fairly computer literate you can go on autotrader, gumtree and ebay and search Honda Preludes. if there is nothing there you like you can enter your details and they will automatically notify you when a prelude is put up for sale.

I do this to keep my eye on price trends, which are creeping up!

You can also try Piston Heads and Classic Car web sites .

There are plenty out there but its finding the spec you want.

If you need any help there are a lot of good guys ion this site who can advise you. It would help if you could copy in the url of the ad you are looking at like this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ode=m309hg

Though this one is good it is on the expensive side!

Is there really so few 5th gens around? I live near Cambridge and was considering selling my 1998 2.2 VTi 4WS Manual a few months ago. However, it just went through its MOT after fitting a new exhaust and I had it serviced recently. It has only got 49k mile on it and is completely original and I decided to enjoy it for another summer when I have recharged the aircon.

It begs the question though how much is a car like this worth? It has a scrape by one of the rear wheel arches and I don't know how much the car is worth as that would give me a clue as to how much to spend sorting out.

Hi Quix

A low mileage manual 2.2 vti is one of the top specs and most desirable. While valuation can be affected by other issues such as colour and service history, based on the current market I reckon you car would be worth somewhere between £3k to £4k.

With "not many left" it isn't going to go down in value and so its worth spending some time and money keeping it in tip top condition and enjoy driving this great car. I wouldn't sell it unless I had to!
