RX8 vs S2k debate
A bit of an RX8 bashing going on here lol, a few urban myths. You can’t really compare an RX8 to an S2K or to the 0-60 against a Prelude. All three are completely different machines, the S2K is a 2 door 2 seater sports cars and the 8 is a 4 door “family sports car”.
The 8 isn’t good at launching off the line and yes you would have to be Stig and completely brutal to achieve the 0-60 times claimed by the manufacturer. The beauty of the 8 is it’s 50/50 weight distribution and the ability to handle well, it was actually just as quick round the Top Gear track as an M3 and not that far off an NSX Type R....

I’ve owned an RX8 new since 2007, it’s got 45K on the clock now with no issues to date and the Mrs managed to flood it just once in those 6 years, but it was a 10min job to get it started again with another running car so I didn’t flatten the better.
As mentioned a lot of it is down to poor maintenance and care and scrimping on quality service parts. The MPG is terrible, I only manage around 18-20mpg regardless of how it’s driven, road tax is high on the later models (including mine), and yes it’s not my cup of tea in standard guise which is why I got it with a MazdaSpeed kit.....

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Honda person at heart – have had my CRX for over 15yrs and have owned other Honda’s including the 4G BB1. We don’t actually use the 8 daily anymore because of the petrol cost and poor mpg, but I just can’t bring myself to sell it as it’s such a brilliant drive. If anyone has driving one round twisty roads you will know what I’m talking about. It’s not about the straight line speed in this car, it was never developed as such, otherwise they would have stuck a turbo in it.
Anyway I thought I would share my opinion for the flip side.

i go with the RX8
my m8 let me have a blip in his (in the snow
) and found it a real nice well balanced drive, i would compare it overall to be the same as the Eunos roadster i had.
i am sorry to say i find the S2000 bland and boring
and the market it was meant to compete in was with the MX5/Eunos and they beat it all day long on their fun factor
i have always loved Honda but they just got it wrong with the S2k
