ECU Question

Post by VT3C RUNN3R » Fri Mar 22, 2013 10:20 am

Hello Gents,

Yesterday I switched my ecu with one that I bought from JDM-BB4 (fitted with one of Robs chips  ) My problem is the ecu which I removed from my car had more ports than the one I connected from Dave leaving one plug unconnected...anyways I thought I would still try it and just see what codes it might through up...Ive appeared to lose TCS, but not too fussed about that (except for the light showing on the dash!) and Ive also lost my rev counter.

the car runs fine, with no bogging, hesistation or any apparent issues, and I dont get a CEL either. Im really just trying to make sure that the unused plug isnt anything of too much importance!

..and would I be right in assuming that the chip can be removed and switched between ecu's? (unfortunately not something Id be comfortable with trying though!)

Thanks.

The fourth plug is for the TCS system, so you will just lose that. I don't think you'll have any other problems, except maybe for the MOT?

Yes, the chip is interchangeable between 3 and 4 plug ECU's.

when you open up your ecu the chip would have to be desoldered and a carrier plug installed ;)
my friend did mine for me and said it is a PITA :P

only get someone who really knows their stuff to attempt this, i think the last one who had problems with this on here sent his ecu to @bluejackhustler who is a wizard at this :D

the advantage you have is having a ecu to run on while you had your ecu fitted then ou could have your TCS back ;)

Ahh, now this is very interesting... My JDM has traction control, but always has the TCS light up, I can't get any codes out of it AND I have no rev counter!

I haven't looked into it too much yet (lower down the list) but this suggests to me that the ECU has been swapped then. I will definitely have to get in there and have a proper poke about when it warms up a bit.

(Anyone got a spare TCS enabled ECU in case I need one???)

By the way, to answer one of the concerns raised above - this has never caused any problems with MOT.

in the past with mot would have been fine. but with the new laws any dashlight on is a fail.
and they wont take the time for you to explain why that cel is on, they just assume you have something to fix ;)

so would the rev counter not working be related to this then?? not a big deal but curious as to why it stopped working..

DBO - yeah its defo not something id want to attempt myself! I have no soldering skills!! and I have 3 working ecu's so could even send the 2 ecu's and have the chip straight swapped and returned

Can someone @ necluestyleslude - dont know how its spelt  maybe he can help??

wurlycorner - That is interesting  same mo... Im hoping I can get a chip added to the 4 plug one and see what the result is! Just thinking bout it though, surely someone has one of these chips and still has TCS!?

defo the case this - mine has TCS but i was lucky enough to get an origonal Spoon ECU with the 4th socket for TCS and the rev counter so ive been ok - my new Hondata doesnt though, but once that is up and running the Spoon ECU with the 4th TCS/rev plug will be up for sale!
