Insurance help
Hi Danni
Just thought i may be able to help as i work in insurance,
You are right in what you said in your first post, all vehicles now must be either insured or sorn'd at ALL times under the new CIE (continuous insurance enforcement law)
Therefore, that would mean that temporary insurance would be fine when MOTing it but as soon as that temp insurance runs out the car should be sorn'd, therefore the tax should be relinquished
and when you need to drive the car again, you would have to re-insure the car and re-tax it every time,
There is now way around this really im afraid, all you can do is to try and get a cheap annual policy, or as suggested above hire a trailer for when you go to the shows
Sorry i cant give you any suggestions to help

Might be worth getting a 2nd hand trailer. A mate of mine got one on ebay that was basically the frame of a caravan with scaffolding boards bolted to it. Cheap as chips, plus with a small car like that you shouldn't have a problem finding a small trailer, and getting on and off should be OK (you might have to support the boards with bricks or axle stands when you drive on and off). It'll probably cost less than a year's insurance.
Ended up being needed more than he thought when the car being trailered broke down on a trackday - he'd have had to have paid to get it trailered home otherwise.

Re: Insurance help
problem with towing is if you want to do it legally it works out expensive. You need the right licence to do it which if you havent got one means paying for lessons and a test. Also you'll be surprised at what you need to use as a tow car too, requires something beefy with the right towing weights which will again need to be taxed, insured etc.

Re: Insurance help
id be surprised if the vectra could legally pull a car to be honest. When i was looking into it i was amazed, i suppose the polo would be lighter than a prelude so it might be ok. what are the towing weights of the vectra? And when did you pass your test?

It depends when you passed your test.
I'm old enough to be able to do pretty much anything (tow with a car, drive a minibus, tow with a minibus, drive a 17.5tonne lorry etc.) but it changed in 97 and has changed again this year by the looks...

Apparently I can already tow trailers up to 750kg.
I can also tow heavier trailers if the fully laden trailer weight isn’t more than the unladen vehicle weight. The combined weight of trailer and vehicle can’t be more than 3,500kg.
Unsure on the vectra details but its a 54 plate 150bhp model and the polo is around 800-900kg
