Ok, me and my friend think it is related to overrun on the LSD, and potentially an error with the coupling. Source; Wikipedia - limited slip differential. It really sounds like this. Who knows about these gearboxes?

Theres a few of us who have lsd gearboxes but i dont know how we can help you out - these gearboxes are pretty bullet proof as long as theyre maintained properly. Overtime they can develop a crunch into 5th or reverse and its normal to change the gearbox oil to amsoil mtf to help smooth things out a bit. If that doesnt work and your sure its the gearbox then youd have to take it to a garage or specialist such as PAW but any gearbox work would be costly. Bear in mind u can get a second hand non lsd gearbox for around £100 and a replacement lsd box for around £250.

Yeah, the thing is I'm not 100% it's the LSD. That's just my educated guess. It's like nothing I've ever heard before, and this is my 25th car. So I was hoping someone on here may have come across this. What I really need is more people to hear the sound it makes. Maybe I should upload a video to YouTube?

Just thinking: With the ABS light being on, could the ABS sensor have collapsed onto the ABS Ring? Or the ABS ring come loose and hitting things in behind a brake disc?
What's the ABS code?
What's the ABS code?

That's a good call indigolemon. I've had ABS toothed wheels break and come loose before now (not on a Lude)indigolemon wrote:Just thinking: With the ABS light being on, could the ABS sensor have collapsed onto the ABS Ring? Or the ABS ring come loose and hitting things in behind a brake disc?
Also, have you checked gearbox oil level or for any contamination in the oil? That's the simplest place to start I suggest!
Check the level (so you know if that was problem or not, before...) and then get the drain plug out and see if there's any metal deposits in the bottom of the case/suspended in the oil...
Ref note in the second post, low brake pads wouldn't cause the ABS light to come on - there's no low brake pad warning light on the lude. Check the fault codes to see what it says is wrong with that system.

Ok, I'll have to get it plugged into a computer I guess. I'll also find out how to check the gearbox oil level & check it for metal deposits.
If it were to be the abs toothed wheel, would it not be the case that this noise would only occur under braking? Or if floating about, all the time?

You just need a bent paperclip to read the codes man, have a look in the wiki ( link at the top )
