Hello!
I've owned both a 5th Gen red top and a 350z. Loved them both.
350z is much more brutal on the power. If you can afford 10k - buy a GT4 350z so you'll have the 296hp uprev engine AND have the lower road tax! But 8K will get you a nice one and 276hp is plenty for jobbies and giggles.

I will prob swap cars at some point but ....if I can..... will try and hang on to my 5th gen. Nothing else like it for the money. 350/370 are on the list but it isn't going to happen for a while yet.....

Yes.
THATS A TON AND A HALF.

Other than that, carry on :D
they also have 280 bhp in the older and over 300bhp in the newer model so thats roughly a 100 bhp more than a lude that only weighs 200 kg less. you can do the maths on that one as i don't think i need to.
the 350z is a lot more modern looking car and if made by honda as a 6th gen prelude plenty of people on here would be raving about them.
i love the prelude but if i were going to spend some of my hard earned on a new car it would be wearing a nissan badge as there isn't a car with a honda badge on that is able to fill the prelude gap.
lets face it all of the prelude gens are now very usable classics that you wouldn't want to turn up at some swanky business meeting in if you were looking to impress. they are a fine car to take to shows with like minded people, or the track to thrash the tits off or as a very reliable very fast budget car. they have reached that certain age where people now say wow i used to love them when i was a kid i haven't seen one in ages.
chasing rust is not everybodys idea of fun either and certainly isn't cheap to keep on top of, i have 2 small areas on the pickup again that need sorting. sunroof and rear arch and it annoys the hell out of me but i will get them done so i can take it to shows and thrash it round a track that i have towed it to with my 350z
I was leg pulling, but I don'y have to like them you know :P
Just to counter though, regardless of the extra grunt, I still wouldn't want to be lugging the extra weight around corners, and yes, I have driven one. But I got the same feeling as I did from the 300zx TT - lots of poke, but felt too heavy to chuck about. Maybe it's just what I'm used to? :?
Oh, and I have done the maths, my lude has a slightly higher P-W ratio

Also, up until recently I did a lot of freelance photography for estate agents, mainly Hamptons, Savills and Knight Frank. I accept that my lude is quite clean, but it's not perfect and it's 20 years old just like most of them on here. I never once felt uneasy pulling up to to some £3 million house with the usual merc/maser/audi/porker outside it. In fact, they would ask me about it, namely 'what is it?' but on more than one occasion I took the lady of the house out in it :D

I agree on the Honda line up, not much interests me :( hence why I did what i did to mine, but that's not for everyone, I accept that.
littlefeller wrote:tesco paid out £800, so that is the value of the lude. as ted will agree (being a machanic and all that) there is no point in spending more than £800 on the lude
Why? Unless you're planning to resell and get your money back, I see no issue? It's what the car is worth TO YOU, not Tesco...

bennyboy your engine is not standard so not fair to compare a standard z engine against a modified h22 and nobody has to like anything they don't want to. littlefellas car is im sure he will agree not worth spending on being both rusty and automatic and his money would be better spent elsewhere.
elsewhere could very well be on a better more sorted lude as i am in no way putting them down, i have one myself. or on something else which he has asked for suggestions on which is what i did.
snobbery is not my thing either,i could buy a very nice car indeed just by selling the numerous pieces of jobby that i have hanging around me constantly. when the silver one elderly lady owner from nearly new 4th gen around the corner eventually comes my way that will be the lude i keep until the day i die.

This, I did not know  I should have looked at his profile really!
I wasn't saying to spend money on his particular lude, though I know it reads back like that, more that maybe other ludes would also be worth considering, as well as the newer stuff?

Agree with Tram btw the Cayman's look good (fantastic from the back/rear 3 quarter view).

+1

When I bought the 350z I test drove a few things. Cayman was best car I had ever driven for the money, it just did everything brilliantly. Unfortunately then they were still quite new and a lot more than the 350z. If you can stretch to 15-16K a Cayman S will just keep you smiling. If you drive a prelude, chance are you are already more than capable of looking past a badge i.e. "it's a poor mans 911" bollocks. v different car.
Its all really subjective though, there is no substitute for driving and seeing what does it for you.

having said all that though, I still think the prelude has everything beat in terms of bang per buck.
