Alfa GTV......

Post by Nik_L » Mon Apr 15, 2013 6:34 am

So, sold the Prelude few weeks back and been on the hunt for new car since. Viewed all sorts of bum droppings and walked away undecided. Few folk at work commented saying i havn't had an Alfa and quoted JC saying i wasn't a true petrol head blah blah.

Then this popped up. At the price, i didn't have high hope's for it but went for a look. Got there and was greeted by a same owner car for last 9 years (2nd owner), full Alfa service history, mint inside and very very good condition outside.

So, its a 2000 phase 2 GTV Lusso 2.0 TS....

Quite happy with it, drive's friggin awesome for a car with 111k on it. Suspect it needs a MAF as it has the notorious flat-spot between 4-5k rpm. Previous owner prob never knew this as i couldn't see her being up that end of the revs.lol. Other than that its tip top. Goes well enough and sounds pretty fruity as standard.

Very nice - I like these a lot. When was the cambelt done? Every 36000 or 3 years on twinsparks. Don't leave it to chance - if there's no record of it being done then I'd be booking it in straight away.

Get yourself over to alfaowner.com if you need any tips. They're a helpful bunch over there.

I had a 146 ti with the 2 litre twinspark motor in it and all I can say is, Worst. Car. Ever. Looked nice, black with black leather, but that's it.

It was quite fun when it worked properly, but that was next to never. I bought it, drove it for 2 weeks, it went to the Alfa dealer for repairs, cost me a grand, still not fixed so sold it for £200 as rolling scrap.

Moral of the story is, buy an Alfa and enjoy it (for 5 minutes) but sell it again before ANYTHING goes wrong on it.

Yeah, love these.
As others have said though, Alfa engines eat cambelts. Don't run past the interval (or even for later Fiat/Alfa engines, as far as the supposed extended cam belt intervals!)

Interesting choice - some seem to be good cars, others absolute nightmares.

How you getting on with the ergonomics? The 'Lude's are superb, as are most Hondas.
