if not then will find out how much post is.

can someone confirm though that a 4ws ecu from a h2.3i auto will work :?:

The only differences in 4ws ecu are abs and non-abs.
They aren't interchangeable, so if you have an abs fitted car, you need an abs 4ws ecu.
It says in big letters on the sticker if it's the abs version or not. I did a post about it somewhere.

EDIT:
Post is here.

The pics aren't great (taken in the dark with a torch lol) but it has all the info on differences between ABS/non-ABS

BTW, have you re-checked what fault codes the ECU is throwing up now, since you've done the re-soldering? Would be worth doing that before whipping it out again, if you haven't.

Thanks for the info wurly.
its a non-abs ecu that i have in there at the moment, and i dont have an abs light on the dash, although with all i have discovered about the car in the course of this thread i cant take that as meaning there isnt an abs system in there!
I would have thought the 4ws light would have come on quicker if it was the abs thing, as it lasted a good 3 days the first time and i took it out for some, lets say enthusiastic driving.
and no i didnt think to check the codes, just finished resoldering it and its working ok again, hopefully long enough for it to be mot'd this afternoon. will check them if it fails again though. when. when it fails again.

Taking bets on when it packs up again, my bet is on the way to the mot about 4pm today...

Dbo if its a non-abs ecu i would be happy to pay you postage and a bit for your troubles, as i am totally sick of looking at the insides of mine now!

Look under the bonnet.
If you have this thing with the orange plugs next to the the inlet manifold, then you have abs.
If you don't, then you don't :D

If Dbo's can't help you out, I have a non-ABS 4WS ECU for sale (link in my sig below).
If your car is non-abs, you should also be able to use the pics in that and my other 4ws ECU post to confirm if you have the right ECU fitted in the first place.

Right, i have just checked the codes since changing the steering rack boot as the light came on shortly after i had done it, and it seems to be a code 20. i get two long flashes then about 15 super short flashes, too fast to count.

seems to be something to do with the front main steering angle sensor. and ideas on where to go from here?

And wurly i'll take your 4ws ecu mate, pm me and i'll send you payment.

the first two long flashes are to say the ecu is ready ;) gone into diagnostic mode :P

then it starts the codes, how many people are going to keep falling for code 20 :?:

Thats all it does, light goes off straight away, the 2 long flashes, then about 15 uncountably fast flashes (a lot faster the the shorts i had when i got the code 62) and thats it, just keeps cycling the 2 longs and 15 really shorts.
