we had this on peachy's lude the same. it was just unreadable

when you plug in the clip the light should flash 2 long flashes to say entered into diagnostic then rest for 2 seconds then start firing codes

his wouldn't flash to say in and just flash fast as hel for about 15 to 20 times and rest for 1 second and start again.

anyway your main steering sensor is on the steering coloum

That's not what the manual says though Dbo?
It says one blink when you turn the ignition on and then shows the codes.

When I've got codes out of my 2, that's exactly what it's done.
They've never given me 2 blinks to say it's ready, so have never diagnosed it as reading code 20 at the beginning and they've never given me code 20 in amongst any of the other codes.

The rapid blinking you then see Bludge, is it switching between codes in the main ECU and sub ECU.
I'd interpret your code reading as 20, too.

There's a long winded test procedure for code 20, because it could be a large number of things as well as just the main steering sensor (one of the other things being the ECU lol).

Curious co-incidence we've had 2 ECU's giving that code this week though!

so according to your chart he still should get 1 blink then a 3 second pause then codes

he is saying his is straight away diong 2 long and 15 really short, so where is his 1 blink i'm in

well when i said the light goes straight off i guess that could be considered the initial blink, then yeah i guess about 3 seconds gap before the 2 longs.

It does sound like a code 20, looking at this thread http://preludeuk.forumup.com/about45105 ... udeuk.html i will take a look at the sensor as i need to whip the steering wheel off anyway to replace the cover.

I still think that its the ecu causing the problems though as in that thread the guy says he can reset the 4ws and it will be fine for a while, and a reset does nothing for me.
as soon as i recieve the one from wurly i will chuck it in and see what happens.

^^^ Ok, so my initial response to this was going to be that we should each get one of those light things that submarines used to use to signal to each other over visible distance in the rain. Then we could repeat the flash between strategically placed (probably hilltop) 'ludes up or across the country until it reached the person with the right experience or expertise who could diagnose the problem and post a response

Then I thought - why not just use our headlights to do it?

Then I thought - why doesn't he film the flashing on his phone and upload for everyone to see. Is this possible?

Or am I just a killjoy missing the point/fun?

Right, i recieved the 4ws ecu from wurly and installed it today, it clicks every time i start the engine but the 4ws light stays on 4 out of 5 engine starts.

It now throws up a code 62.

So with the old one in it was a code 20, no clicks from the ecu on start up and the 4ws light always stayed on, and with the one from wurly its a code 62, clicks every start up and works once in 5 or so engine starts.

My guess is both ecus are faulty. this sound right to people? cause surely if there was a problem somewhere else in the system i would be getting the same symptoms and same codes with both ecus right?

i think the code 62 is the one which is mostly fixed by the re-soldering of the 2 relays on the board. I have an intermittent code 20 on mine. Removing the 10A fuse from the clock/backup fixes it every time. I have learned to drive around it.

As long as I dont drive off straight away, dont turn left first, or reverse (with a combination of others) it works fine

i.e. If I start the car, wait while I get the radio sorted and my belt on, then drive forwards but only turning right...it is ok.

I think code 20 is too generalised, I cant believe its the main steering sensor when the car drives normally 80% of the time.
