Engine start/stalling problem.

Well, it stalled again last night (just once) at a junction and was hard to start again this morning from cold. Started a little better when leaving work but still not as well as it did before this all happened yesterday.
Could someone give me an ebay link to a coil pack and distributer thingy that will fit my car? I've had a look and even though they all say 5th gen, they seem to be a variety of shapes and sizes.
I'm gonna try to run the fuel down with the fuel system cleaner in it, then if it keeps happening, might start and replace the parts, cheapest first.
Also, does anyone know where the ECU plug is? Checked on here and the American versions have it in there passenger footwell but mine just has a hole where it should be? On the other side is a blue plug that i've read is the UK port but the auto guy i had out yesterday said his diagnostic reader would not fit that plug?

I agree. It sounds like it might be either ignition switch or coils. If you have a look at the switch first, but rule that out, then I have a spare dizzy off a 2.2vti (complete with pick ups and coils). I don't know if it's the same one on a 2.0?
If you want to borrow it to try, you are welcome to for the cost of the postage. If it solves your problem then you can have it for the £50 that I paid before finding out my problem wasn't the dizzy. I might not be able to get to the post office before the weekend though.

It's the thing on the steering column that the key goes into!pbryant_knight wrote:Where's the ignition switch located mate? What does it look like? Any pics?
Think there's 5 crosshead screws to remove from the bottom of the cover / cowl. The top half then comes away also for access to the switch.

2 pin plug? That's the service connector alright (assuming 5th are the same as 4ths anyone?).pbryant_knight wrote: Also, does anyone know where the ECU plug is? Your diagnostic guy is right in that his code reader won't fit it, because it's not that kind of service connector! You bridge the terminals, turn the ignition on and the lights on the dashboard flash the fault codes to you. No need for a code reader.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll try to have a look at the problem again tomorrow.
Would the Ignition Switch be the problem even if it's cranking ok but not catching? I've always had problems turning the key in the ingnition barrel anyway and need to wiggle it a bit to get it to rotate . A picture of what it's like would be helpful if anyone has one. (I really am useless with this stuff)

Upon reading other ignition switch posts i see this usually causes the dash lights to go off and cut out altogether. Mine is just getting harder to start and when it had stalled its been more a spluttering lack of power than a dead cut out.
Thanks for your offer Andy but i think i might like new parts for piece of mind. Would these be the correct type of Dizzy and coil pack for my car and would i need anything else?
