Engine mount failing - oil cooler leak etc!!

Post by h10ndr » Sun May 12, 2013 9:33 am

Hi, its not been a good week for my Lude this week.

At the beginning of the week my osf outer cv joint boot went. Grease everywhere. Now fixed.

Drivers electric window jammed, on investigation it appears there was 1 loose bolt but the regulator has lost at least 2 teeth and the motor gear looks foopar. It wont shut the last 1cm and bounces. It is now held up with blocks of wood. So I'm hopefully sourcing a replacement from on here. This needs fixing.

Whilst under the car, I noticed an oil leak, I think its the oil cooler seal. Needs to be done.

Also, the drivers side engine mount has splits and appears to be allowing the transmission to be all but sitting on the toe eye brace. I have shopped online for replacement engine mounts (honda wants £700+vat for all 4) so that is not an option. Other options were cheap China sourced sets from USA. £150ish but these get bad reviews.

So I have sourced a full set of HardRace engine mounts imported from USA, inc vat, duty prepaid and delivery to my door £305 !! These are uprated but still made from rubber and look stock. So I will let you know how I go getting these fitted.

BTW, I have no money, so "mum" stepped in an bought me the engine mounts.. :D :D :D :D

lol.

Yeah - I did offer to pay her back, but she insisted it was ok. :D
Anyway, quick update. Parts arrived today from USA. Will see how we get on fitting them. That's the next job.

Will post a pic up of them for reference later.

Hope it all goes well. I'm interested to see how those mounts are coz I keep splitting OEM ones from Honda and they're too expensive to keep doing that! But I can't stand the vibration of solid mounts either.

Is that front/rear that keep splitting on you judderod?

Polybush inserts are available from funkypower for around 30 quid (includes the inserts for both of those). I've got some for the JDM, just not fitted them yet.

Both the front and rear got split, replaced them, now the front has gone again, and the rear might be gone or splitting/loose. Looking at those inserts they just take up the free space in the mount that allows the engine to move a little ie vibrate so I thought I might as well fit solid if I'm going to use of those?

I see what judderod is saying

I don't think you have many options apart from brand new oem mounts

and if the engine is uprated, it could tear them too

I think the poly mounts good points out weighs the bad with the vibration thing

If you just fill just the gaps in the OEM's with liquid poly, it beefs them up considerably so they won't tear, and the vibrations are pretty much negligable.
