Temp Sensor Wire

Post by Mudgey » Wed May 22, 2013 11:24 am

Hello,

I am trying to trace the temp sensor wire for the gauge cluster, does it go from the cluster to the ECU? If so what socket and number is it?

Thanks!!

I have looked in the service manual (I am looking for a location for my aftermarket temp sensor) and it shows that there are two engine coolant sensors right next to each other. One is engine coolant temp sensor (I would assume that this goes to the ECU), and the coolant temp gauge sending unit (which goes to the gauge?).

Page 10-9 of the service manual.

If its the same as the 4g then its a single pin sender tucked under the dizzy that runs the dash gauge

I 'think' it's a direct feed (not via ECU)

Thanks for the replies guys. I am installing a K20 so everything is a little different! I have fitted a temp sender wire from my temp sender into the interior but I need to locate the cluster wire to hook it up, I have been told the K20 loom splits the wire so the sender feeds both the ECU and gauge on the cluster, I was hoping it was the same on the H22's as I could tap into a wire on the original ECU connectors!

Page 23-60 shows the gauge assembly and the wiring diagrams. You might know what you are looking at.

Hi,

not sure what you are reffering too? I have the service manual thats about 1100 pages which shows the temp sender wire is Yellow/Green and apparently runs through connector C10, I cannot find where C10 is located but I think it might be through the 5 or so plugs by the shock towers... ?

Haven't used the 5th gen manual, but if the 4th gen manual can help point in the right direction..?

Pages 23-133 to 23-140 cover how the coolant temp and fans are connected (this refers to senders that are a coolant temperature "switch", i.e. they aren't a variable sensor, they are 'on/off' switches so wouldn't feed the gauge).

Page 23-141 onwards cover the senders that feed the gauges.

23-171 shows the sensor that's connected to feed the temperature gauge. It says that should have a red wire and confirms it is the sensor Merlin has circled above (the temperature switch for the fan is further to the right in the coolant hose housing?).

Does that help at all? :?

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I have just enough information to locate the wire now, i'll see what I can find, earth it and hopefully the temp sensor will move!!
