I know what you mean.
Most of this stuff is precautionary though, just because to do it later you'd have to go through all this labour again, just to replace one small little part :cry:

I hate water pumps being driven off the cam belt tbh. Saves build cost but a crap idea from future running costs and reliability (seized water pump = stripped cam belt = potentially ruined engine = well unnecessarily pissed off owner)

Have a look down the left side of your engine. If you have oil marks leading down to the top of the gear box more than likely either your cam end seal and/or VTEC solenoid seal are perished.

I have a healthy oil leak here and since my valve cover is coming off to do my timing belt, I am making use of this opportunity to replace any perished seals at the same time. If I wasn't doing my timing belt I would be bothering TBH.

I am having to replace my rocker cover gasket too a I know that is quite old and wont go back on properly even if it isn't completely goosed ;)

That was my view on the UKDM, but that's why I'm now into my second heater hose in 4 years :cry:

Yeah, better to be safe (and poor) than sorry, and all that..

Ah, my heater hose under there was perished to hell and back so I cut a couple of inches off it. Guess I'll do a VTEC solenoid and cam end seal too then. Suppose I should look at a whole set of rocker cover seals really.

I might do the same thing. I also should get a VTEC solenoid gasket, might visit Honda for that though as all the ones on ebay look different to each other!

@Merlin I know this one is a litle extra cash, but do you think it looks better? Or will they be the same?

I would be surprised if they are different.

Ok, so been in to Honda today and they don't show a superseded part number against the original part for my lude, so that would suggest this thing about there being a later part which is plastic with O-rings instead of the rubber part, is a fallacy???

The parts guys didn't know if this particular one was double ended from memory, but the parts diagram shows a double ended part and they believed you did have to remove the cam cover to change it, as we suspected.

I also did a search for an earlier post I remembered and Nafe had posted up a pic of the genuine Honda part here

In other news (I've been meaning to post this for a while) The JDM doesn't leak and it seems a previous owner/mechanic found an alternative way to achieve that, without replacing the seal;

But hey, don't knock it - it works!!! :lol:
