Garage Unconversion

Hi folks,

As some of you are aware, I moved house recently to somewhere more suited to the amount of cars my girlfriend and I have Unfortunately a previous owner had for some reason converted the garage, an otherwise useful man space, into a children's play room So today I set about restoring it for it's proper use. Plan of action was to remove the wall covering the garage door, then once that was removed take a view as to whether or not I was going to remove the remaining walls and ceiling. At any rate, here's how it went:

First I smashed hand holds in to the upper board, and gradually ripped it out



I then buried an axe in the wall



After regaining concentration and removing the lower sheet of plasterboard, I had this



One stud was missing because I decided to 'strength test' it I then got my power drill and removed the screws holding the remaining studs in place



And finally



Now I just have to clean up

My garage door is a bit pissed as you can see, I think it could do with a bit of tlc... Is there anything that I can do to service it, as it were?

At any rate I'm well chuffed, once I clean up it will be ready having a car in

Those doors normally have tensioners on either side to help them lift. If it's not lifting straight, try greasing the track on the low side (first) to see if that helps, if not, probably need to adjust the tensioner. Not sure how you do that, but it's probably a windy thing you take the tension on, pull a pin out of, wind it up a bit more and replace the pin in?

It might be at the top? With the door closed you should be able to see what's what I reckon.

Good skills. Extra space for car parts and tools. Unfortunatly I have the same issue in my garage but rent so no go on the wall killing

Cheers guys, I'm currently cleaning up so I can put a car in it tomorrow and admire the novelty Ive also tasked a friend who's a joiner by trade with building a workbench for myself, so hopefully soon I will have myself a nice base of operations

Wurly, I did notice that the cable on the tensioner was going slack on one side, I think maybe they need adjusting then - I'll perhaps have to google that one. I'll grease the runners too, the slack side has popped out once already There's a gigantic spring the length of the to too, I wonder if this needs oiling... Looks very grimy.

The garage door at my parents house did exactly the same, my dad isn't one to shy away from fixing things but in the end he replaced it with an electric opening one
