I appreciate you have the Mazda 6 MPS on your list, but you can get the newer shape like mine 2.5 MZR engined (variable valved) for around the same money, 2007-2008 reg's.
It's really practical, sexy looking car, hachbacked, but four doors, is fully loaded with extras. Just not as quick as the other options you posted, so depends what you want out of it.
Mine, even though you've seen it:

Copy and pasted specs from my thread:
Here's some specs on it:
- Mazda 6 Sport Hatchback
- Engine: 2.5 4 cylinder Petrol MZR engine (168hp/167lb/ft) - Timing chain so no belts!
- Transmission: 6 Speed FWD
- 0-60: 8.3 seconds
- Top Speed: 137mph
- MPG: 25-45mpg (35 average)
The Sport model is the top spec which adds all the goodies including the following:
- Sport bumper/skirts kit
- 18" Sport alloys
- Twin outlet exhaust system
- Xenon headlights
- Tinted windows
- Auto-fold mirrors
- Keyless Entry System with Push Button Start
- Heated Half Leather Seats
- Bose 8 Speaker Stereo + 6 disc in-dash changer/bluetooth/aux
- 'Mazda 6' illuminated entry system (sill plates)
I personally love it!

Those Meganes are pig ugly.
I was contemplating a Maxda MPS, but it was the street appeal of a Mondeo.
Don't know what to suggest really, Evos and Scoobys are fine, but they don't really have family car running costs.
Pop along to Swindon and come out for a ride in your Uncle Shiny's ATR and forget this 2005+ nonsense. I have sweets in car and there are woods nearby where puppies roam free.
