4g temp and fuel gauge help

Post by honda-hardy » Mon Jun 17, 2013 10:04 am

any ideas? wife just called me to say she has no temp and fuel gauge illumination. its a ukdm with dimmer switch.
she has checked all fuses they are OK. there is also side lights and main lights, but is unable to confirm any dash lights as its too bright outside to see them.

where to look next? any ideas gratefully received.

Those are self-lit EL units man - can't think what would cause that to happen - it's very unusual for them to break. I have a spare if you want another to try at some point? Happy to send it down?

Its not been tampered with as it is stock. I have no illumination to it at all. Still need to get her to check the main dial illumination when its dark.

I've had it in cars before where the dimmer control suddenly goes intermittent because of dirt inside and you get nothing unless it's on full brightness (works when it clicks over to the 'switch' section at the end of the travel). Don't think the lude dimmer control has a switch for full brightness though?

Might be worth taking it out and giving it a good spray inside with electro clean in case the contacts are dirty?

just so your aware, the clock and gauges illuminate as you turn the ignition on, the dimmer adjusts the clock, dials and gauges. this morning the clock worked and dimmed with the dimmer, i could not see any light from the fuel and temp gauges, like they were not even turning on. when ignition on.
