DIY rear fog/reverse light swap - help?

Post by bb1boy » Thu Aug 08, 2013 11:12 am

Hi guys,

I need to wire up a rear fog for my MOT on saturday, I refuse to have one of those under-bumper lights and I don't want a UK bumper light so I want to wire up a red LED into my reverse light housing.

I am going to do this tonight/tomorrow, is it obvious which wires to tap into back there?

Cheers!

Once you get the boot trim out of the way the wire that goes to the drivers side reverse light is obvious. Sort your switch and wiring then snip the reverse light wire and join it up ;)

Maybe you should use one of your brake lights for this, so that it is already red?

4th Gens only have one brakelight per side, so could get confusing!

I'm going to do the same thing, planning to order a red LED bulb so it looks white unless it's on.

I have my red LED, it was about £5 for 2 of them from eBay. Just have to wire it up.. and fit a CV boot then I should be good to go for MOT!

IMO the hardest part is finding the headlight power wire as you ideally want to use this as a power feed for your rear fog.

Oh... I had an under-bumper light for a while so I'm hoping the wiring that was installed for that will suffice - won't know til I try it tho!
