Re: Ratty's Thaipess - Paint protected shizzle

Post by RattyMcClelland » Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:24 pm

Another respray session today.
This time is the bonnet spoiler and i refinished my wing mirrors. I resprayed the mirrors when i did the car but i got a bit carried away with the pearlescent layer and it turned into a yellow hue on some parts of the mirrors. That mean laying the pearl on too heavy.

Anyway.
Heres the spoiler. Its already in white diamond pearl but the paint is old and cack and the ghay carbon fibre sticker is faded and cracked. Plus the fibreglass is craked on the edges.
So 1st of all i tried to heat the sticker up and peel it off. That wasnt happening

Heres some of the cracks

80grit the whole spoiler with a da and removed the sticker with 80grit.

Started filling the edges with SMC cabon fibre filler.
Image

Some filling and sanding later and then some heavy layers of 2k primer and then flattening back we have this
Image

Sprayed some Nighthawk black on the centre section.
Image

Used 3m fine detailing tape to create that carbon fibre sticker shape and masked it all up.
Image

The wing mirrors all painted and pearled up ready for clearcoat
Image

White diamond base and the pearl layer and then unmasked to reveal
Image

Image

Got some overspray in the black from not masking it all properly but nothing too noticable.

Lathered the lacquer onto it nice and thick.

Cured off, cooled down and then wetsanded flat and polished and tested on the car.

Do you think the lacquer is flat enough?

Just got to drill the bonnet for the spoiler, put the mirrors back together and then wet sand and polish those up.
