EL Dials doing my head in!!!!

Post by Dbo » Mon Aug 26, 2013 9:54 pm

took jdm pre-facelift dash loom out and fitted project x dash loom in :!: connected ukdm facelift manuel el dials.
test run down the road ;) all worked apart from speedo needle didnt light up, no vtec in any gear and eml light came on :evil:

connected jdm manuel el dials and on test drive all worked but no vtec in any gear :(

took out project x dash loom and fitted ukdm bb1 facelift dash loom ;) ukdm facelift manuel el dials! they lit up really dim untill we removed the dimmer control unit and all lit super bright :D indicators were inverse and not working so connected the extra earth on the passenger side and indicators worked right :D test drive 3, speedo needle out and no vtec in any gear :cry:

jdm maneul el dials fitted to this loom all worked but no vtec in any gear :x and speedo in kmh ;) tried to splice in sumopower kph to mph convertor and el clocks would not light up :roll: all seemed to work but no el illumination and no bloody vtec in any gear :cry:

seems like i have no connection from vss to clocks to tell ecu when to fire vtec :?:

anybody HELP please :oops: getting real pissed off now :x got 3 different looms and 2 different el sets and none are giving me bloody vtec :?:

:roll:
Now I know why I haven't tried fitting any of my 3 sets of el dials into either of my cars yet... (think I've had the first set for 5 years, too!)

the ukdm el dials do have a mph converter in them so if you are fitting these to a pre-facelift ukdm it would be a piece of body lemonade ;)

only problem i have is trying to fit jobby ukdm rubbish to a jdm :twisted: looms are just too different ;)
no info anywhere on el clocks or any info on how to wire in a kph to mph converter :shock:

somebody must have done this :?: and waking round with the knowledge in their head but just not willing to share the how too :evil:
if i cant resolve this will have to go back to analogue dials and then take great delight in smashing the jobby out of the el dials with a drokking big hammer :twisted:

I've found how-to's on fitting jdm and ukdm el dials into jdm cars before now, on puk.
(what I hadn't found was a how-to on fitting either type of cluster to a ukdm, so it was no good to me! :evil: )

Top hit is this very forum;

There's also a PUK link further down (not the one I remember, but might be the right one)

@Dbo - No VTEC at all means a break in the speed sensor feed *before* the ECU, what happens after (the feed to the clocks) has no bearing on how the ECU sees things.

8-)

Ok, so I think the combinations I have are...

1x JDM dash loom
1x set of JDM dials (with invertor)
2x set of UKDM dials (with invertors)

:think: But I may be wrong and the dash loom might have come out of a UKDM after all :? I forget... I'll have to re-check through old PUK PM's and see if I can work it out! :lol:

And what I have to put them in are;
1x prefacelift JDM
1x prefacelift UKDM

I prefacelift UKDM to postfacelift UKDM without issues. Swapping JDM -> UKDM and vice versa can be tricky due to missing SRS/ABS lights etc.
