Right, I think I have solved it!
Looked under the bonnet, took the plug off the VTEC solenoid, took the plug off the VSS. Blew into both to remove anything.
Then I read on a US forum that sometimes, dodgy wiring on Speed Limit Removers can cause my exact issue.
So had a look at where my HKS one was wired in.
F*** MY LIFE. The WORST wiring I have seen in a long time.
Spliced into the ECU harness, with nothing but celotape and masking tape holding it all together.
Dodgy earth, exposed wires etc.
So I thought, sod it, I rarely go over 112MPH anyway, and on my list of plans for the future is a Hondata S300, which will remove the limit anyway.
So I removed it, wired it all up properly with crimps, electrical taped any exposed metal, looks OEM again.
Took it for a test drive... VTEC!
And no engine light!

Great work chap.
Regarding oil, I run 10w40 semi in my civic and will be changing both the Civic and Lude to 5w40 Fully next service, and when the lude is done!(only because I get a crap load of this free
). We fill most things at work with 10w40 Semi so seems to be the choice for our climate. S2000 uses 5w40 fully and all the diesels use 5w30 Fully. Its crazy cause loads of people use different grades of oil in there cars without issues.
As said, good work matey

One life, LIVE IT! Get VTEC, LOVE it. Drive a Honda and ENJOY it.

I've already pulled the code if you read back abit. Was flashing up as 17, which is VSS. But ended up being a dodgy signal being sent to the VSS from the Speed Limit Defencer.01PreludeBlue wrote:I would pull the CEL code before you do anything. See what it is and go from there. Double check you filled the oil up to the 2nd dot. VTEC will not engage if it's low on oil. I run 10w-40 without any issues and know some friends that run 5w-30 and 5w-40 with no issues.
Now it's all ripped out it's as good as gold!
Like I say guys, I've used 5w40 on every one of my Hondas. It's the perfect oil for our cars due to the older engines, and generally higher mileage (mines done 115k km). Just seemed strange that it was dirtectly after changing the oil that it played up.
The only thing I can think of is that the oil was so old and stodgy in the engine that the sensors had gotten used to it over time, and putting fresh oil in free'd some bits up again, promting the dash light and the no vtec. Plus, the dodgy wiring into the ECU harness obviously didn't help! Haha.
