The only time i noticed the 4ws is at slow speeds.

I cant say i really notice it at all over the cross-over point, even when i was giving it a serious pasting at coombe.

Perhaps next time im there, ill do some sessions with, then full the fuse and do some sessions without, guess that would show the difference.

i believe some of the last gen zx300s had 4ws, along with some versions of skylines?

Don't do it that way

And yeah Nissan have the HICAS/Super HICAS system.

Or maybe they are on the next page over and about to finish the exam

Seriously, drive an ATTS prelude, which is the same chassis, and tell me that with a straight face....

....4ws will step out on you if you are not careful, as will an lsd and atts. you just have to get used to each systems habits. 4ws takes the longest to get used to at normal speeds imho.

To be fair, I haven't tried ATTS. (If anyone fancies giving me a shot, I'd love to... :D )

I may be displaying my ignorance here (Quite happy to, which is a tribute to this forum) but isn't ATTS effectively just another of these Electronic LSD's? I've been in a few cars with those (Cooper S Works springs to mind) and while they do help traction by better allocating power between wheels at one end of the vehicle, the other end is no better than in any other car.

My thought: With all regular cars getting around a corner is about accommodating a slide or potential slide at one end or the other, or a drift with both. With 4WS (And I write as someone who LOVES oversteer, especially RWD) you don't have to drive around the fixed wheels to make the same accommodation. I agree that it takes time to get used to - I still am - but how can any 2WS system be better than this? Better than a system that stops you having to drive around a difference in the way each end of the car takes a corner, by letting both ends of the car take the corner the same?

As an additional bonus, with 4WS the angle of the rear wheels tends to help smooth the transition from slide to grip as you come back into line too.

(Sorry if that sounds like trying to teach you to suck eggs. Not intentional. I know you know/have driven this stuff. I'm just aware that the odd person may read who hasn't tried 4ws, and I'm just massively impressed by it! No offence meant!)

Yeah, really don't do that - it'll be nasty because the wheels aren't locked strongly enough to cope with track cornering speeds!!!

You wouldn't. Combe's corners are all faster than the cross-over speed.

That's what i mean, the 4ws is only noticeable at the slow speeds. Over the crossover speed, its effect is not really noticeable, so its hard to determine if it actually makes that much difference at all.

I don't notice it on the road (upto 70mph), and i didnt notice it on the track (upto 115mph), therefor, other than below 20mph, i dont really notice it doing anything at all.

Perhaps im used to it now, and the only real way to test would be to disable it and do back to back tests...

You can't disable it safely though, this is the issue. Any error status that causes the 4WS light means the motor disengages and your wheels are only held straight by two rather large springs. In this state, your top speed should be under 50mph for sure!
