2.0 5th gen fuel economy

Post by jjmartin349571 » Sat Oct 05, 2013 2:42 pm

Hi folks,

Just wondering what kind of fuel economy the 5th gen Preludes get with the 2.0 manual lump? I'm after a different car for my girlfriend who does 70 miles a day, as the Scirocco is being scrapped and we've decided the Accord shouldn't be doing the miles (it hit 80,000 the other day  ), and there's a sensibly priced 5th gen nearby that might be a go-er. We need to be getting at least 35-40mpg on a run though!! I seem to remember that my 6th gen Accord was getting close to this, so surely the lude must do better being a good few kilos lighter? :?

Cheers,
Josh

IIRC the mpg figures between the 2.2 and 2.0 were closer than you'd expect.

Ah that doesn't sound like it's worth it then, VTEC fuel economy is not what we're after  found a Civic VEI now anyway, which is much more suitable. Might go view it tomorrow if possible. Shame as I'd like to get a 5th gen lude at some point

Why scrapping the scirocco btw, didn't think it was that bad? Not worth selling?

30-40mpg Same as the 2.2 or many other 2.0 petrols. Depends on how your drive.

It intermittently will run badly - 3 carbs and many hours spent tuning them and it's still not quite right. I still use it as my daily but it's becoming a bit annoying now. As for selling it, you can't give Sciroccos away it would seem, even though they're a Mk1 Golf underneath just with a lower centre of gravity and better looks. So yeah it's destined for scrap sadly :( although my parents just put an offer in on an unused farm, so if timing works out I may just tuck it away in a barn, as tbh the £100 for scrap is barely worth it. I only want it out my way for the space.

Cool, in my head the 2.2 is 20-25mpg but that's probably because of how I drove it :vtec: so we'd be no worse off using a 5th gen over the Accord, but then it does make me think if we're going to have something on the thirsty end of the scale why not get a VTEC...

I think I need to check out this Civic tbh, I think another Prelude might be too many  I've got a Civic Aerodeck to go see as well, I kind of miss having an estate to lug stuff about in :( Shopping for a car based on practicality is a ball ache, I much prefer choosing cars by if I like the photo in the ad

A 2.0l with a H23 intake manifold can have a ridiculous fuel consumption :)

I my country we don't have the same way to calculate it but you save almost 1 litre / 100km.
