Show him £800 cash & see what he says.

Might be enough to excite him into submission. But if not, it might be worth a grand.
Things to look out for;
- ANY signs of rust on rear arches, & sunroof
- Interior condition
- Oil leaks
- Crunching in 5th or reverse
- Smoke out the back
- Warning lamps on dash
- All electrics working
- 4ws working (if applicable)
- Chips in windscreen
- Water in light fixtures
- When the cambelt was last done!
If any of these points are questionable, negotiate them into the price.
If all of these are good & the engine feels strong, throw him a grand & drive away quickly I reckon.
You might also add;
Q: "Does it have the LSD gearbox & 4ws?"
A: "No"
"Oh, that's a shame. I was really looking for a model with these features tbh..but I might still be interested if the price is right?"
If you do go for it though, once you de-decal it, kit it up, & maybe change the wheels, you might have yourself a really tidy motor there.
It would have to be a minter though for me to hand over £1k. You can get a tidy Type-S for around £1500 - which is a much better package overall. Plus the VTI's are regularly popping up here & there, so keep your options open.
Best off going to check it out first anyway. Then report back here with your findings before you commit.
Once you've got the facts, people on here will soon tell you what it's worth.
Just don't impulse buy unless you're certain your getting a bargain..
And finally, pay very careful attention to how this car runs & feels; he's done a lot of mods to it, & is looking for something faster..so has he beaten the sh1t out of it?
That is all.
