Ok, thanks all for your info, it's all interesting. Just got to get it all into my head.
I've had a slight change of plan, won't be selling my mb6, selling the mrs KA instead, just got it's mot and got 2 advisories on it. One being rot underneath. So will be selling that instead now so may only have a £1000-£1200 to spend on one. So just gotta keep an eye out for a decent one, probs 4th gen.
What BB should I look for??

BB1 = is UK and JDM H22 with 4WS
BB4 = JDM H22 normally without 4WS
The BB4 can come with or without sunroof, ABS, 4WS and cruise control. JDMs can cost more to insure and should be run on a minimum of 97RON fuel. UK H22's are more than happy with regular 95RON.
Mart has already stated the differences in power between the UK and JDM engines.

I keep reading this jdm's only run on 97 RON but I'm afraid I disagree. Our JDM is perfectly happy on 95 RON, no problems with it.
JDMs do cost more to insure.
They come with digital temp control, whereas ukdm are always manual slider control.
JDMs also got toys (options) that weren't available on UKDMs (electric folding mirrors, wind deflectors, electric adjusting drivers seat etc.) but have a lower base spec than ukdm's (normally not airbags and abs for example) so it depends if you like toys or not. But you're now into the realms of 185 bhp stock for ukdm or 197 bhp stock for jdm, so no 200 bhp
Both can be DIY chipped very cheaply though (unlike 5th gens) to get extra power and there are UKDMs on here that have been dyno'd much higher than 185 (and higher than jdm's) with little or no mods, so it all depends on the individual car.
Another notable difference is BB4's go through a de-cat emissions test on the MOT whereas BB1's go through a cat emission test.

Been looking tonight at some and I've found a decent 5th gen in Exeter on gumtree, might be popping down there next weekend. Saw a 4th on auto trader but that was snapped up quick, was lovely. And then there's one in kent with gold alloys but he sent me a pic of the rust. I really don't want rust. There's some out there I just gotta look.
Bb4 sounds good, I always run de-cats on my cars.
The bus of woe, you got a build thread up there? This forum does seem a lot nicer. Civic5 is nice..... Just a lil weird.

No pal, no build thread. Just a lot of questions regarding bloody MGZS 180 suspension
. Got a build thread on here though, on my 4th gen track car.
The Civic 5 forum is nice, don't get me wrong, if not as u say, weird
. Yea the obd2 civic is a nightmare, hence I haven't got mine re mapped. This is why im tracking a £300 lude.
I know the 4th gens can take one of Robs chips, if the ecu is compatible. Otherwise its the likes of hondata s300 ect or a chip with Chrome. Im sure someone will explain better the tuning compatibility of the 5th and 4th gens

You can get chips for 4th gen ecu's from Rob on the forum (spoon copy etc.). £15 quid if I recall correctly then need to fit them yourself or get someone else to do it for you. They give decent power increase for peanuts but obviously more limited than going for full hondata etc. (which means P28 swap, as you've done before).
There are no cheap options for 5th gens. No doubt someone with more 5th gen experience will be along to explain more on them.

Yeah you can drive on 95RON, you can sling it in there. You might not be making 197 bhp though and thankfully the JDM engine comes with a knock sensor.wurlycorner wrote:I keep reading this jdm's only run on 97 RON but I'm afraid I disagree. Our JDM is perfectly happy on 95 RON, no problems with it.
