I still can't get on with Whisky.

I've spent all my life disliking almost every spirit, but at a mates BBQ a 2 or 3 years back i sat and drank a bottle of some cheap Whisky with coke and started to get a taste for it.

Went to NI and i t was rude not to bring back a couple of bottles of Bushmills, and since then i have acquired quite a taste for Whiskey. Currenly getting through a bottle Jamesons at the moment.

I have tried Whisky and i still can;t get on with it, it tastes bitter and harsh in comparison to Whiskey, surprising just how different the peat bog water from Scotland is to the fresh spring water triple distilled from Ireland ;)

In other words, i'm a whisky poof.

Unsure which whisky you tried man, but it varies greatly depending on the region you go for. A Dalwhinnie for example is a very smooth and sweet whisky, with none of the harshness or medicinal qualities you'd get from an Islay whisky. I tend to stick to the Speyside or Highland whisky myself, TCP smell/taste is not something I look for in a drink (hello Laphroaig).

If you're willing to take a chance cos some random bloke on a forum suggested it, have a punt on a bottle of 15 year old Dalwhinnie - I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

[edit] On offer in Tesco atm: http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/ ... =256601951

I'm not sure you can go any further into the red before we take your gentleman's sausage away from you...

I generally find anything 40proof to be nasty bum droppings yuk yuk yuk but if its freeeee or easily available I dont normally remember this till its too late.

My 8oz one will be frquented by stuff like cherry brandy. Something tasty.

There's a difference?!

Whatever, I probably haven't tried it. Don't really do spirits after a bad experience on Vodka when I was 16!! I am now back on the vodka, after having some of confused's Worthers vodka!!

Can't get on with Scotch, but do do Bourbon or Irish.

( all whisky related comments, not nationality, lest anyone should start...)
