Like I said you would of been the first person to blow a prelude gearbox....

What if the clutch has failed but we couldn't see it / feel it ? ( I'm not giving up on the clutch yet cos I still don't wanna eat my hat )

Or something really is damaged or broken in your engine.....

Open the flywheel inspection hole and check the flywheel is spinning whilst the engine is idling, that should show you if you're getting drive from the crank?

Also how much of the friction surface was left on the clutch when you took it out? If you put the car in gear, leave the clutch pedal up, and crank the starter with the engine off does the car lurch forward at all?

Does the gear shift feel ok, like it is actually shifting the innards of the gearbox?

I have found the problem, it was the passanger side drive shaft,

I'm very sorry damo , I checked that shaft ( but obviously only by hand and not under load) and it seems I missed it. I wish I could of seen your car before you started taking it all apart..

Dont be sorry its not your fault, I found it by accident I haved the car up on axle stands with the engine running and in gear, wheel was turning but passanger side wheel was still. On looking under the car I could see the drive shaft was turning but only upto the joint, the rest of it was still and when I turned the wheel by hand the noise stoped as it wasnt grinding, am just about to start taking the drive shaft out now.
