Need advice on my F20A4/H23 plans...

Post by ingramr189 » Fri Jan 24, 2014 4:53 pm

Okay I have a few questions... I'm trying to piece together a few items and this is what I'm going with and wanted to run it past you guys with a couple other questions. Here is what I'm looking at:

OBX Header:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111261786252?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

or:

I'LOVEIL Header:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310683353066?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Catback Exhaust:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350719331965?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

OBX Intake Manifold:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190858744629?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Skunk2 66mm Throttle Body:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171219847012?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

I'm basically outfitting my F20A4 Prelude with H23 parts. The research I've done has shown consistently that H23 IM/TB and Headers are plug and play direct bolt on applications.

For Cold Air/Short Ram Intake, I have seen that Short Ram can totally rob you of power being exposed to hot air in the engine bay, however I remember I tried installed a CAI a few months ago (they sent me the wrong one, it didn't fit the TB) however also the intake tube would have been way too long even if it did fit the TB. There also seemed to be a built in long air plumping in the engine bay panels. It's hard to explain but I just cannot figure out what type of Cold AIr application works best for my Prelude, and if I am also forced to relocate the battery. Can anyone shed some advice and wisdom? Thanks again so much.

IMO, you're better off swapping in an H22.

For the amount you're spending on these parts plus the tuning you'll need to have done, you'll be able to find an H22 and have some change.

Could be expensive insurance wise though, a lot of garden variety insurers take a dim view on engine swaps... I don't know what I'm going to do with my 6th gen Accord when/if I'm done with it because of this

I agree. Not worth upgrading the f20a4. Just wap a vtec lump in it.
Also those headers wont offer anything over what OEM would do. Just adds shinyness.

I agree, turbo fit would be better than swapping an h22 in.

You have to consider that hurting/killing someone with a swapped/modified car will cost you A LOT more than what you will save by swapping a H22 rather than upgrading your F20 with "sleeper" parts.

Mod you head and put a H23 intake manifold/exhaust on it, nodoby can tell if it's stock or not, tune it, I bet you'll be really close to 185 hp.

In my opinion, peace of mind is priceless when you want to enjoy your car.

A french guy have port matched a H23 IM, not to the head, just the parts of the H23 IM. Borred OEM TB. This is the only mod and he is making 154HP.

Another one as modded a head and it makes over 170hp with the stock IM and stock exhaust.

Here is the work made on the H23 IM, the pins are used to keep the parts in place and port matched them.
