the last challenge was in raf caerwent, between newport and chepstow we go there rallying a few times a year and no videos or photos even allowed because it is military ground, yet top gear can do what the hell they want in there. strange.

They could of picked better hot hatches.

I think for a first episode it was good. I personally like the light hearted nature of the show it's fun :D

The hot hatch segment was a bit long, I thought. That they'd end up with tanks and explosions was a given - we just need to wait for ages for the end.
Silly me, I thought they might have actually proved the point by comparing old with new for at least one 'sketch'. 205 vs 207, anyone?

The hot hatch thing was a bit long, TbH. Should have been shortened with a new supercar review as an extra feature.

They did do a serious comparison between 80s and modern cars a few series ago (by and large the modern ones were quicker, although all pretty  inducing in comparison, so mute point in my book!)

I was surprised how decent the golf seemed - sounded good, looked reasonably quick and to handle pretty well (better than standard golf gti of that era). Jezza got the point about the appauling equipment level spot on though!

Hammonds Nova must have been overpriced, surely? 700 quid wasn't it? For something with mis-coloured panels and headlining missing?

Thought it was an average episode, I don't enjoy it as much when its TOO staged. I agree with wurly, the 80's hatchback film was too long.

Last nights Top Gear was pretty poor. Near the end it was painful :( It has turned into a car themed "entertainment" show.

Oh come on, we all know what that show has become and you'll all be there watching it again next week.

I have to admit I nearly pi$$ed myself laughing in the supermarket bit when Hammonds Nova came sliding past the finish line on its side!

I had a 1.2 Nova Merit with a 1.3 SR body kit, Astra GTE alloys, big sound system and a furry parcel shelf 8-) I loved it (back then).

I'll watch next weeks episode for sure. There is nothing better on.
