if the battery terminal is hot, then something is not right there.

I previously was asked to look at someones VW, strange fluctuating voltage (notieced by the interior lights changing intensity).

a quick touch of the fusebox revealed a hot battery terminal. Further inspection showed melted fusebox cover where the negative wire goes in.

Turns out the fuseable link had cracked, and was only making point contact, and this was the cause of the excessive heat build up.

I would double check all the connections (eg battery to clamp, clamp to wire, wire to wherever) and check for cracks or poor crimps etc.

If the battery terminal isnt sitting propperly, that would be my first port of call. Check the wire hasnt corroded or oxidised too much.

Battery terminals are fine now.
All wiring is ok.

But dash lights are still on.
It's got to be the alternator. It's looses it's. Voltage above idle.
Negative battery terminal got hot because it was loose and I did excessive cranking.

I used to be a N/A guy, I used to fool around
But I couldn't take the lack of torque, and had to supercharge
Now I'm running it unmapped, and yes I checked my earths
You might think I'm crazy, but I don't even care
Because I can tell what's going on
It's hip to have a broken alternator

Car runs na until it's on boost. It's not like turbo charging. Battery light wasn't on until I changed the alt.
